Community and connection are at the heart of everything we do, which is why Carol, Jean, and I were absolutely delighted to be invited to the Fenchurch House Wellbeing Fair. Held on Thursday, May 21st, the timing could not have been more perfect, coinciding with a beautiful, sun-drenched May afternoon. The event took place in their lovely garden, providing a peaceful and uplifting backdrop for everyone in attendance.
The Fair was thoughtfully organised to promote Dementia Action Week, a crucial initiative dedicated to raising dementia awareness, fostering community support, and highlighting the overall wellbeing of individuals and their families. It was wonderful to see so many people come together to support such a meaningful cause.
During our time at the fair, we had the pleasure of chatting with Mrs. Toni Barwell, the owner of Unirose. We learned about the vital services Unirose provides to the community, which focus heavily on care co-ordination and real-time companionship. Their team does incredible work helping people navigate the often complex health and social care systems, assisting with shopping, and accompanying clients to various appointments to ensure they never feel alone.
Of course, no garden gathering is complete without some treats, and the refreshments provided by Fenchurch House were absolutely delicious.
The highlight of the entertainment was a lively performance by Memory Lane. They brought an incredible energy to the garden, capping off their fantastic set with a spirited rendition of Sweet Caroline, which is a firm favourite among the residents. There is truly nothing quite like music to bring a crowd together and spark joy.
We would like to extend our warmest thanks to Hannah for making us feel so welcome and to be a part of such a special day. We sincerely hope the event was a tremendous success in spreading vital awareness about dementia and strengthening our local support networks.
