We had a wonderful time this afternoon at The Woodlands Hotel in Spalding, where members of the Friends of Johnson Community Hospital were invited to a very special gathering.
For the second year running, the Ladies’ Probus Club has chosen to support our charity, and we couldn’t be more grateful for their continued generosity. Our President, Christine Lawton, was honoured to accept a cheque for £75 from Jennifer Peacock, the former Probus Club President.
Donations to the Friends go towards enhancing the lives of patients and supporting the incredible staff at Johnson Community Hospital. Upon accepting the donation, Christine shared some of the ways these funds are put to work:
- Organising Christmas Carol services and ensuring Father Christmas arrives with presents for every patient.
- Providing floral tributes for all female patients on Mothering Sunday.
- This year, Easter eggs for all the patients.
- Recently purchasing a sensory lamp for the blood clinic to help distract and calm children during their appointments.
- A few years ago, replacing the televisions in the Welland Ward.
“Today’s generous donation will play a major part in helping us fund the purchase of something from the hospital’s wish-list,” said Christine. “Thank you once again for thinking of us this year.”
It wasn’t just about the donation; it was an opportunity to socialise. We were delighted to meet Brendan D’Abreo, Secretary of the Men’s Probus Club, who gave a fascinating talk titled “This World – The Lesser Known Phenomenon.”
Both the Ladies’ and Men’s Probus Clubs are currently looking for new members to join their friendly community.
Probus Clubs are social clubs for retired or semi-retired professionals and business people in the UK, offering fellowship, activities, and opportunities to meet like-minded individuals. If you’d like to learn more about these wonderful groups, please get in touch:
