Christmas Carol Service

The Friends recently held their annual Christmas Carol Service in the Welland Ward of Johnson Community Hospital, a much-loved tradition that brings patients, visitors and staff together during the festive season.

The service was warmly opened by the hospital’s chaplain, Steve Weatherly-Barton, who welcomed everyone with the words: “Your word, O Lord, is a lantern to our feet and a light upon our path. The light and peace of Jesus Christ be with you all.” His welcome set a calm and reflective tone for a truly special afternoon.

The service itself was delightful, with prayers, readings and familiar Christmas carols. The Friends’ choir sang beautifully, joined by everyone in attendance, creating a lovely sense of togetherness. Light refreshments were provided by the Friends, with nursing staff kindly serving teas and coffees.

It was particularly heartening this year to see more patients able to attend. Being in hospital is never easy, especially at Christmas, and we think it meant a great deal for patients to be able to leave their beds for a short while and enjoy the service with others.

The highlight of the afternoon was, of course, the arrival of Father Christmas, who brought gifts for all the patients. The smiles and laughter he brought were a wonderful reminder of the joy and comfort that small acts of kindness can provide.

As with everything the Friends do for the hospital, this service would not be possible without the generosity of our local community and the dedication of our volunteers. Their continued support enables us to provide equipment for the hard-working nursing staff and to bring comfort and moments of joy to patients throughout the year.
