Yesterday, the Friends of Johnson Community Hospital were proud to host a special celebration marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day. The event was held in the Day Room on the Welland Ward and brought together patients, their friends and relatives, the hospital’s hardworking nurses and auxiliary staff, and members of the Friends’ Charity.
It was a small and intimate gathering, filled with warmth, smiles, and community spirit. Christine Lawton, our President, opened the afternoon with a light-hearted and uplifting speech that set the tone perfectly for the occasion.
One of the highlights of the event was the wonderful music provided by Lynn Chappell, who played the piano beautifully with a selection of songs from the wartime era. Her performance had everyone joining in for a cheerful sing-a-long, creating a truly heartwarming atmosphere.
A big ‘thank you’ must go to Tracey Wells from Pinchbeck WI, who generously baked a delicious selection of cakes for the celebration. Our thanks also to the Welland Ward staff who kindly served teas and coffees.
It was a lovely way to mark such a momentous occasion, and the Friends were delighted to help bring a little joy and reflection to the hospital community.
