The Heartfelt Generosity of Jean Mary Ann Ginders

We often talk about the kindness of our community, but every now and then, a gesture comes along that truly touches our hearts. Recently, the Friends of Johnson Community Hospital were on the receiving end of such a gesture from the wonderfully generous Jean Mary Ann Ginders.

Jean reached out to us with an offer that initially seemed simple. She had some soft toys she no longer wanted and wondered if we might be interested. Little did we know just how vast her collection was! When we arrived to collect the toys, we were greeted by a sofa full of adorable soft toys, with another chair entirely occupied by Big Ted, who comfortably took up the whole seat. It was clear that Jean had spent years collecting these delightful companions.

These toys, though never played with, were clearly cherished and loved. Each one held a special place in Jean’s heart, and her decision to part with them was not taken lightly. As Jean prepares to downsize, she wanted to ensure that these toys could bring joy to others, just as they had brought joy to her. Her motivation for choosing us as the recipients was deeply personal -her father had been cared for so lovingly in the Tulip Suite of Johnson Community Hospital, and she wanted to give something back in his memory.

We welcomed Jean’s generous donation with open arms. The toys will be well cared for as we prepare to find them new homes. We are confident that they will bring smiles to many faces, just as they did when Jean first collected them. The proceeds from their sale will go directly towards purchasing equipment to benefit the patients and the hardworking staff of Johnson Community Hospital.

Thank you, Jean, for thinking of the Friends and for your incredibly thoughtful donation. Your kindness will not only help us in our mission but also ensure that your beloved toys continue to spread joy and comfort to others.

With gratitude,

Christine Grocock
